THE IDEA is based on our distorted perception of snakes. They are not to be found in the highly urbanised environment anymore, but the loose mythological or religious concept is still present. A serpent – as an image – still is powerful or at least has a power to evoke fear and disgust, although we rarely have an opportunity to confront them. They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them, they will lay hand on the sick and they will get well ( Mark 16:18).
